Call for Music

In an effort to build my collection of gospel-themed music, I'm asking you, gentle reader, to send me music suggestions.

I need inspiring, uplifting music that doesn't resort to being sappy or cheesy (please no "Scatter Sunshine"). Any recommendations?

  1. You could always look into the CD Collection of Steve's right next to the bookshelf. It has a lot.

  2. You can use the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Pandora station for ideas.

  3. I recommend Seven Swans by Sufjan Stevens. Unique lyrics. Unique sound. I can't get enough.

  4. FIrst of all, I'm sorry for my shameful blog-stalking. However, I must say that I definitely agree with Micah's Sufjan Stevens recommendation. Please also check out A Pauper's Hymnal by Kalai. Please and thank you. :)

  5. A few of many good ones:
Rob Gardner's Oratorios "He is Jesus Christ" and "Joseph Smith the Prophet" are great.
Lex de Azevedo's "Variations on a Sacred Theme"(two discs) have neat instrumental arrangements of hymns. His "Gloria the Life of Christ" is an Oratorio and also good.
BYU has many CD's out through their Tantara productions that are great. The one that struck a chord with me the most was "All Creatures of Our God and King".
I also like Voice Male's CD "Hims", especially their version of "I am a Child of God" in several Languages and Kurt Bestor's song "Prayer of the Children"

    Enjoy!
